Channel 5’s beloved series welcomes a new face at Heston Grange
The hit Channel 5 series *All Creatures Great and Small* has returned, much to the delight of fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter of James Herriot’s life. In the second episode of Season 5, viewers are introduced to a new recurring character, Doris, a fresh farmhand set to change the Heston Grange’s dynamic.
After the emotional first episode, which saw James Herriot (played by Nicholas Ralph) adjusting to life back at Skeldale House following the war and grappling with the loss of his RAF comrades, episode two brings new challenges for the beloved characters.
James continues to balance life as a veterinarian with his new role as a father while his wife Helen (Rachel Shenton) juggles the demands of parenting their son, Jimmy. Helen’s visit to her family’s farm, Heston Grange, takes an unexpected turn when she notices how much her younger sister, Jenny (Imogen Clawson), has matured since they last met.
New Faces in Town
A significant storyline in this episode introduces a new farmhand, Doris, portrayed by Dublin-born actress Caroline Menton. Making her TV debut, Menton trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and has previously appeared in the short film *Altar Boys*. She is also set to star in the upcoming film *Oddity*. Doris is set to shake things up at Heston Grange, bringing a fresh dynamic to the already bustling farm.
Meanwhile, housekeeper Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) finds herself caught between the ever-stern Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) and her new boss, Mr. Bosworth, played by Jeremy Swift. Swift, known for his role as Leslie Higgins in *Ted Lasso*, portrays a character whose relationship with Mrs Hall is sure to develop further, adding tension and intrigue to the story.
A Talented Ensemble Cast
Swift, a 64-year-old actor with an extensive career in theatre and television, has previously starred in *Mary Poppins Returns*, *Downton Abbey*, and *The Durrells*. His new character, Mr. Bosworth, is introduced as Mrs Hall’s employer in her night warden duties, but they won’t always see eye to eye.
Adrian Hood, a Yorkshire-born actor known for his guest appearances in Emmerdale, Holby City, and Doctors, will also join the cast as Mr. Dowson. Hood brings his characteristic charm to the role. His previous notable performances include Up ‘n’ Under and All Quiet on the Preston Front.
The episode also features a familiar face in Jennifer Hennessy, who takes on the role of Hilda Sudderby. Best known for her roles in *The Office* and *Lilies*, Hennessy has been a constant presence on British TV screens for years. A member of the St Winifred’s School Choir as a child, she topped the UK Singles Chart in 1980 with the hit “There’s No-One Quite Like Grandma.” Most recently, she appeared as a chief constable in the BBC’s *Sherwood*.
Fans Await Tristan Farnon’s Return
While fans are thrilled to see the show return to their screens, many eagerly await the reappearance of Tristan Farnon (Callum Woodhouse), who has yet to debut in Season 5.
