Five individuals sustained injuries after a children’s football team along with their parents had ‘acid thrown at them’ while preparing for a training session.
According to parents, a group on mopeds approached Burghley Road playing fields in Corby, Northamptonshire, and began hurling what is believed to be acid onto vehicles yesterday evening.
During the attack, children were arriving for football training with Hellenic Fisher FC.
Terrified parents reported witnessing as many as four moped riders speeding across the field towards them, as relayed by the Northamptonshire Telegraph.
The acid damaged seven vehicles, with several bystanders stating they experienced a tingling sensation on their skin after coming into contact with the harmful substance.
Armed police, fire crews, and ambulance personnel immediately rushed to the location.
Sergeant Keely Cox of Corby Police commented: ‘We are deploying all our resources this evening to apprehend the offenders. We do not consider this a targeted assault.’
‘Five individuals have been treated, but fortunately, there are no serious injuries.
‘At least seven vehicles have incurred damage. This is precisely the types of severe incident that Operation Pacify aims to prevent, and we will do everything in our power to locate those responsible.’
Hellenic Fisher FC coach Russell Dickinson mentioned that his vehicle was one of the most extensively damaged and will require significant repairs to the paint.
The club’s chairman, Paul Cunningham, remarked: ‘The fence has been broken for the last four months.
‘The clubhouse has been closed for two years, and the council has yet to address the repairs.’
‘The safety of everyone involved with this club is of utmost importance. This was not a deliberate attack and could have occurred anywhere, but we will engage with the council and ensure they assist us in making repairs a priority.’
Club Secretary Chris Moorey added: ‘We are advocating for motorbike gates to be installed, but that has not happened.’
‘Had someone been struck, we would have needed water tonight, but we couldn’t access any due to the clubhouse being closed. Someone could have faced serious injury.’
