Jay Blades, the host of Repair Shop, has stepped down from the King’s Foundation after being accused of displaying controlling or coercive conduct towards his spouse.
The 54-year-old presenter previously earned a daytime BAFTA TV award for a special edition of the show that featured the King, who was then known as the Prince of Wales.
He had been an ambassador for the King’s Foundation – previously referred to as the Prince’s Foundation – and visited its Dumfries House site in Ayrshire for the BBC special The Repair Shop: A Royal Visit.
However, the educational charity announced on Sunday that Blades had officially notified them of his resignation.
Blades, a furniture craftsman awarded an MBE for his services to the craft in 2022, is the prominent figure of the beloved BBC program, showcasing individuals restoring cherished items and revitalizing them.
The 14th season is set to premiere later this year.
This past Friday, Blades appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court following his charging by West Mercia Police on a single count of engaging in controlling or coercive behavior within an intimate or familial relationship.
The allegation pertains to his wife, fitness trainer Lisa Zbozen, who indicated the end of their relationship on her Instagram page on May 2, as reported in court documents.
Authorities launched an investigation following a call made to an address the day subsequent to Ms. Zbozen’s announcement.
The couple had been united in marriage since November 22, 2022.
A rerun of another program hosted by Blades alongside actor David Jason, David & Jay’s Touring Toolshed, was removed from the BBC’s schedule on Friday evening after his court appearance.
The network will reportedly refrain from scheduling any programs featuring Blades going forward.
