A man has been detained and an assault rifle seized following gunfire that occurred while Donald Trump was engaged in a round of golf in Florida.
It is believed that Mr. Trump was golfing at Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach when the event unfolded at 2pm local time.
According to Sky’s U.S. affiliate NBC, agents from the Secret Service observed a man they suspected was aiming a firearm at the former president, prompting them to fire in his direction.

Currently, it remains unclear whether the suspect discharged his weapon first, fired at all, or if it was solely the Secret Service that discharged their firearms.
A single individual is under investigation by local authorities, and a firearm was discovered concealed in the foliage near the area where the former president was playing.

In the aftermath of the incident, Mr. Trump issued a statement saying: “There were gunshots nearby, and before speculation escalates, I wanted to assure you that I AM SAFE AND WELL!”
“Nothing will hinder my resolve. I will NEVER BACK DOWN! I will forever cherish your support.”
“Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again. God bless you all.”
A bystander reported seeing “more than 20 police cars racing from nearby streets” as he recounted the emergency response at Mr. Trump’s golf course.
“From my view, five unmarked black SUVs obstructed a grey Mercedes outside the golf course,” Max Egusquiza told the AP news agency.
“I counted around 20 police vehicles speeding from adjacent roads,” he noted.
A statement from the White House read: “The President and Vice President have been informed regarding the security incident at Trump International Golf Course, where former President Trump was playing golf.
“They are relieved to hear that he is unharmed. Their team will keep them regularly informed.”
This event follows closely after a prior incident two months ago when the Republican presidential nominee faced an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania.
