At least three individuals – among them two minors – have lost their lives following a collision between two passenger trains in Egypt.
Additionally, 40 others sustained injuries, as reported by the nation’s health ministry.
The injured parties are currently receiving treatment in a medical facility, and “rescue operations are still in progress,” the ministry noted.
This incident took place in the city of Zagazig, the administrative center of Sharqia province, situated northeast of Cairo.
Footage from the scene of the accident reveals a mangled carriage enveloped by onlookers.
Group of men attempted to assist the injured individuals by lifting them through windows.
According to the railway authority, one train was traveling from Zagazig to Ismailia, whereas the other was coming from Mansoura towards Zagazig.
Incidents involving train derailments and collisions are relatively frequent in Egypt, which operates an aging railway infrastructure.
Just last month, a train struck a truck that was crossing the tracks in Alexandria’s Mediterranean province, resulting in two fatalities.
