A ‘kInd-hearted individual with an infectious chuckle’ passed away when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in Lancashire.
Former law enforcement officer Jim Barnes, aged 70, was navigating his Honda motorcycle along Hall Lane, near Lathom close to Ormskirk, when the accident occurred on September 6.
He tragically succumbed at the site of the rural incident.
Jim’s children and granddaughter may derive some comfort from knowing he was engaged in an activity he cherished before his passing.
‘His passion for trains, motorcycles, vehicles, and family time was widely recognized and he enjoyed nothing more than driving or riding throughout his life,’ his family from Thornton Cleveleys remarked.
Characterizing Jim, who hailed from St Helens, as a nurturing, joyful, and amusing figure, they expressed: ‘We could not have wished for a better Dad/Grandad who was perpetually present for us and who will be profoundly missed, likely more than he ever realized.
‘Jim grew up in St Helens and was a student at Cowley School. He became a well-known figure in the Blackpool locale, having attended Poulton College and spending the majority of his adult years with his cherished wife Lynn (who unfortunately passed away in 2009).
‘He served as a police officer for three decades, primarily focusing on traffic enforcement around the Fylde coast. He was a leader in the Cub Scouts and an active member of the Freemasons.
‘He dedicated significant time to aiding others and fundraising for charitable causes and was always available when support was needed.
‘Jim will be remembered as a joyful and compassionate man with an infectious laugh and a remarkable sense of humor, always ready to share a humorous anecdote.’
They added: ‘He leaves behind his two children, Chris and Jane, and one granddaughter, all of whom he cherished deeply.’
Law enforcement is seeking witnesses to assist with their inquiry into the incident, which transpired around 10:40 am that day.
The driver of the Dacia Jogger, involved in the collision with Jim, sustained no injuries.
Inspector Chris Walsh stated: ‘This unfortunate collision has resulted in a man losing his life, and my thoughts are with his family and friends during this time.
‘I urge anyone who witnessed the accident or possesses any CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage to reach out.’
