Selena Gomez has revealed that she is unable to bear her own children due to health complications.
The actress and musician shared with Vanity Fair that her ongoing health challenges, which include a lupus diagnosis, pose significant risks for her to carry a pregnancy to term and undergo childbirth.
The 32-year-old was reflecting on her character in the film Emilia Perez, where she portrays a young mother, and she was also questioned about her association with songwriter Benny Blanco, who expressed a desire to have children in the future.
“I have never disclosed this before, but unfortunately, I cannot carry my own children,” she stated to Vanity Fair.
“I contend with numerous medical issues that could endanger both my life and that of the baby. It’s something that I had to mourn for some time.”
When discussing the prospect of becoming a parent someday, she mentioned: “It’s not exactly how I pictured it.”
“I assumed it would proceed in the same way it does for most people. [However], I’m in a much more positive state regarding this now.
“I consider it a privilege that there are incredible individuals who are open to surrogacy or adoption, both of which are substantial options for me.
“It has made me profoundly grateful for alternative avenues for those eager to become mothers. I am one of those individuals.”
Elaborating on the next phase of her life, she conveyed: “I am enthusiastic about how that journey will unfold, although it will be somewhat different.
“Ultimately, I am indifferent about the manner in which it happens. It will be mine. It will be my child.”

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune condition that is thought to have a genetic basis.
The immune system mistakenly targets the body, producing excessive antibodies that can harm organs and tissues—often irreparably—leading many lupus patients to require transplants.
Gomez herself underwent a kidney transplant in 2007.
While individuals with lupus can achieve successful pregnancies, the condition elevates the chances of complications, such as kidney issues, blood clots, and hypertension.
