Two modified vehicles valued at nearly £100,000 have received penalties after executing donuts near Buckingham Palace.
A BMW Coupe and a Mercedes C63 AMG were captured on CCTV on Pall Mall after activating acoustic noise cameras that were installed in 2021.
Westminster City Council equipped the cameras to be triggered by noises exceeding 90 decibels occurring nearby.
Footage from CCTV depicted the ‘boy racers’ in ‘close proximity to observing crowds and other traffic users’ on Pall Mall.
Additional vehicles also participated in the spectacle, generating noise akin to that of a jackhammer, according to a spokesperson.
Aicha Less, the deputy leader of the council, remarked: ‘Driving in such a manner is not only unwelcome in Westminster, it is also extremely hazardous.
‘We often observe an uptick in such behavior during the summer months, yet we will persist in our efforts throughout the year to dissuade this from occurring.
‘We enforce a strict zero-tolerance policy against anti-social driving, hence I welcome the recent fines and hope that through our collaboration with partners, we can identify additional offenders. If you intend to gather with vehicles like these, our streets are not the suitable place for such activities.’
