A “significant sneeze” has resulted in a professional footballer experiencing a “serious back injury”.
Victor Adeboyejo, who plays as a striker for Bolton Wanderers, was scheduled to compete in a Bristol Street Motors Trophy group match at Barrow on Tuesday.
Unfortunately, he had to withdraw from the lineup due to discomfort in his back and rib area.
Manager Ian Evatt, who was already without key players due to injuries and the international break, indicated that the discomfort seemed to have been triggered by a “rather significant sneeze”.
“Victor has been dealing with a serious back injury and believe it or not, a sneeze set it off,” he informed The Bolton News.
Adeboyejo, 26, has since undergone a scan.
“He experienced a slight crack in between his ribs, and we are optimistic it is merely a cartilage or muscular concern, but until we evaluate the scan thoroughly, we cannot confirm,” Evatt mentioned.
This incident occurred following a tackle during a match against Charlton, the coach elaborated.
“He was fine at that moment; however, then he had a rather significant sneeze. Victor is a robust individual, and even his sneezes are quite forceful.
“I might need to start re-evaluating my approach when players are getting injured from sneezing.”
Bolton currently sits in 18th place in League One, with four points after the first four matches of the season.
They secured a victory against Barrow with a score of 3-2.
