Infuriated community members have intensified their efforts in their conflict with local parents by obstructing their street to prevent it from being used as a school drop-off location.
The Meadowcroft estate is linked by a footpath to St Hilda’s Preparatory School for Girls located in Bushey, Hertfordshire, making it a convenient spot for parents to drop off their daughters.
However, residents have resorted to more severe measures after ANPR cameras and £100 fines failed to deter all parents.
The cameras were set up on the private road approximately a year and a half ago, and it has only been recent that graffiti stating ‘private road’ has emerged at the estate’s entrance.
One resident has begun to obstruct the footpath leading to the school with their vehicle in an effort to hinder drop-offs.
Despite this, one parent from St Hilda’s expressed they are ‘genuinely concerned’ about their children’s safety.
Reportedly, further verbal altercations have occurred as parents continued to utilize the cul-de-sac for dropping off their children during summer activities in the school holidays.
A 41-year-old father, who incurred two fines totaling £120 for parking there last year, stated, ‘We completely respect the residents’ right to privacy and we don’t wish to intrude.
‘Parents are honestly concerned for their children’s safety and we simply want to escort our kids to and from school.
‘Now we are compelled to park on the opposite side and navigate a notably busy road every day.
‘I don’t believe we disrupt anything by walking through the area.’
St Hilda’s Preparatory School for Girls and Hertfordshire County Council were contacted for comment
