Barnsley, UK—South Yorkshire Police have announced the end of an extensive two-month search for Claire, a 44-year-old woman from Barnsley who was last seen on June 24. Despite the conclusion of the active search, the investigation into her disappearance remains ongoing.
Claire was last spotted between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. at the junction of Silkstone Lane and Bull Haw Lane in the Silkstone area of Barnsley. Her disappearance triggered a large-scale search operation, with specialist officers scouring the surrounding woodlands, fields, and residential areas. The focus on these areas was due to Claire’s fondness for outdoor activities, particularly wild camping.
During the search, officers conducted land and aerial searches and door-to-door inquiries and reviewed CCTV footage to find any trace of her. Claire was last seen wearing grey trousers, a light grey or mint green jumper, and a long black gilet. Police believe she has kept her clothing the same since she went missing.
Over the past two months, the police have received substantial information and reported sightings from the public. However, despite thorough investigations into these leads, they have been unable to locate Claire.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson stated, “We have exhausted all current lines of enquiry and concluded our searches, but the investigation remains open. We will follow up on any new information that comes to light.”
Detective Sergeant Rebecca Robinson expressed her concern: “Our thoughts remain with Claire’s family and friends, and we remain hopeful that Claire will be found. I would like to thank all those who have shared our appeals, offered words of support, and provided information.”
The police urge anyone with new information to call 101, quoting incident number 440 of June 24, 2024. Information can also be reported online via live chat or the South Yorkshire Police website.
Claire has not been spotted in more than two months.
