South Yorkshire Police have announced two new arrests in connection with the stabbing death of a 41-year-old man in Barnsley. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 1, when authorities were alerted to a violent altercation involving multiple men on Burton Road in Monk Bretton at 4:23 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim suffering from severe stab wounds to his chest. Despite the efforts of emergency medical teams, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified and is receiving support from the police; authorities have requested that their privacy be respected during this challenging period.
Following the initial arrest of a 19-year-old woman and two men aged 21 and 32 on suspicion of murder, police have made further progress in the investigation. On Monday, September 2, a 40-year-old man was taken into custody on charges of affray, criminal damage, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault. Additionally, a 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of affray and assault. All five suspects are currently in police custody.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson stated, “A number of road closures remain in effect as officers continue their investigation and secure all relevant evidence. We appreciate the public’s cooperation during this time.”
