Ferrybridge, 14:00 – The A1(M) motorway remains closed in both directions between Junction 41 (M62) and Junction 40 (Ferrybridge) following a severe multi-vehicle collision earlier today.
The incident occurred on the southbound carriageway near Junction 41 and was reported to West Yorkshire Police at approximately 12:36 p.m. Three people have sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash, which involved three vehicles.
Road Closures and Traffic Diversions
The northbound and southbound lanes of the A1(M) are currently closed. National Highways has indicated that the southbound closure will remain in place beyond peak travel times, causing significant delays and congestion.
Efforts are underway to manage the traffic caught within the northbound closure, with vehicles being turned around from the rear of the queue.
Diversion Routes
Southbound Traffic
– Drivers heading southbound are being diverted via the solid square symbol. They should exit the A1(M) at Junction 41, continue on the M62 eastbound for approximately 2 miles, exit at Junction 33, and proceed onto the A1 southbound to re-join the A1(M).
Northbound Traffic
– Northbound traffic is being directed via the solid triangle symbol. Vehicles should exit the A1(M) using the Darrington off-slip road, proceed onto the A1 (non-motorway traffic), keep left, and take the exit slip towards the M62/Hull. At the roundabout, drivers should take the second exit to join the M62, continue to Junction 32A, and re-join the A1(M).
