Teen Motorcycle Rider Seriously Injured in Crash While Fleeing Sheffield Police
Sheffield, August 28, 2024 — A 16-year-old motorcyclist is in serious condition at a local hospital after crashing his bike while attempting to evade police in the Southey area of Sheffield.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon around 2 p.m. when Motorcycle and Rural Crime Officers from South Yorkshire Police spotted the teenager riding an electric Surron motorcycle on Deerlands Avenue. The officers attempted to stop the rider, but he failed to comply, leading to a high-speed chase through the neighbourhood.
The pursuit ended tragically on Southey Hill, near the junction with Dryden Road, where the young rider lost control of his motorcycle and crashed. Emergency services arrived quickly, and the teenager was rushed to the hospital. While his injuries are reported to be serious, they are not considered life-threatening.
Following the incident, Southey Hill and Dryden Road were cordoned off for several hours as police conducted investigations.
The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
Authorities have announced that they have submitted a required referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in the aftermath of the collision.
