A hotel chain in Manchester is facing allegations of canceling a reservation following the announcement of an Oasis reunion and subsequently relisting the accommodations at a higher rate.
Sacha Lord, the night-time economy advisor for Greater Manchester, expressed on X last night that he had been approached by “numerous individuals” who were informed Maldron Hotels had nullified their reservations due to a “system error”.
He contended that these rooms were later “relisted at three times the original price”.
Several users have commented, stating that they, too, have faced similar issues.
Oasis enthusiast Mark Slinger, 36, residing on the Isle of Man, recounted to Sky News that he had reserved a room at the four-star Maldron Hotel in the heart of Manchester for 20 July, which coincides with the final night of Oasis’s performances at Heaton Park next year.
He completed a £90 booking via booking.com yesterday morning, coinciding with the band’s announcement of their much-anticipated reunion tour.
However, later that evening, he received a communication from the hotel requesting him to cancel the reservation.
The message read: “We are writing to notify you of a problem regarding your Maldron Hotel Manchester City Centre reservation.
“Due to a system malfunction, you have received a confirmation for a booking that was not successfully processed. Regrettably, we are unable to fulfill your reservation at this time.”

The communication further indicated that a cancellation request had been issued, which Mark was urged to “acknowledge promptly”.
He informed Sky News that he had not acknowledged the cancellation and had no intention of doing so. Furthermore, he expressed his disbelief that the issue was merely a “system error”.
“They recognized that they could cancel and resell at quadruple the original rate due to the Oasis concert,” he stated.
Maldron Hotels conveyed to Sky News: “Due to a system error with our booking platform on the 26th & 27th of August 2024, a significantly higher number of rooms were booked than the availability for the dates of the Oasis concerts on the 11th/12th and 19th/20th of July 2025 at Maldron Hotel Manchester City and Maldron Hotel Cathedral Quarter.
“Consequently, we cannot fulfill all reservations made for these dates, and we are actively communicating with customers regarding their reservations.
“The hotels are currently not accepting any bookings while we conduct our investigation into this matter. This is not an initiative to re-sell rooms at inflated prices, but rather a result of overbooking stemming from a system malfunction.
“Additionally, due to the same technical issue, a limited number of guests were able to reserve rooms at higher rates later that evening. We will also be unable to accommodate these reservations.
“We will honor all bookings made prior to the 26th of August. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.”
