Three individuals have been detained in connection with the stabbing of a woman during the Notting Hill Carnival, with authorities suspecting that the victim was inadvertently involved in a conflict between two groups of men.
A 20-year-old suspect has been apprehended on charges of attempted murder and violent disturbance.
Meanwhile, a 24-year-old and a 22-year-old have been taken into custody on allegations of violent disorder.
The 32-year-old woman remains in a critical condition.
“As the investigation unfolds, initial assessments indicate that the woman became entangled in a dispute between two male groups,” stated the Metropolitan Police. “It remains uncertain whether they had any prior connection to her.”
All three suspects were arrested at different locations within Hammersmith and Fulham on Tuesday morning and are currently in detention.
Commander Charmain Brenyah expressed that the arrests mark a “critical advancement” in the investigation, extending his thoughts to the victim who was “swept up in the most dreadful violence.”
This development follows police reports indicating that five additional stabbings occurred and 230 individuals were arrested on the final day of the festival in west London.
“I also wish to commend the remarkable efforts of the officers, including police medics, who responded promptly—providing urgent medical assistance and securing the area to protect crucial evidence,” Commander Brenyah further remarked.
“Our inquiries into the other incidents that occurred over the weekend are ongoing.”
