Regular patrons of the pub attempted to intervene against a purported serial ‘dine and dash’ duo accused of skipping out on payments at a minimum of two eateries and ten cab drivers.
Daniel Alani and Kerry Stevens, both aged 38, allegedly evaded the £62 charge for a roast dinner at The Castle Inn in Little Wakering, close to Southend, in April.
They consumed two cokes, an orange juice, and a medium glass of white wine along with a meal that included prawn cocktail, breaded mushrooms, and two chicken dinners with added lamb, before attempting to leave.
Landlord Ken Todd, 76, remarked at that time: ‘For the sake of £62, if they walked in looking famished, I would have simply provided them the meal.’
‘The gentleman attempted to exit through the rear door of the pub, which I had previously secured, and the woman allegedly tried to flee through the restroom window,’ he stated.
Alani and Stevens were later apprehended at a residence in Great Wakering on May 2.
Authorities interrogated them on suspicion of three counts of departing without settling the bill and subsequently released them on conditional bail.
However, law enforcement is now searching for them again since the pair failed to comply with bail conditions last month.
Alani is described to be approximately 5ft 8ins tall with a robust physique, while Stevens stands around 5ft tall and is of petite build, according to police reports.
They have ties to the Southend and Great Wakering regions.
A representative for the police stated: ‘Officers seek to converse with them regarding ongoing inquiries into occurrences where individuals are alleged to have evaded payment for taxi fares and restaurant bills, as well as their noncompliance with police bail.’
