Motorists in and around Doncaster should prepare for significant travel disruptions as nearly two dozen road closures are scheduled over the next two weeks. According to National Highways, 20 closures are set to occur, with seven likely to cause moderate delays, potentially holding up drivers for 10 to 30 minutes.
The current roadworks include four ongoing closures that will continue through the week:
– A1(M): From April 14, 2023, to August 31, 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes) are expected northbound between junctions 36 and 37 due to lane closures for a wide load waiting area.
– A1(M): From November 20, 2023, to September 7, 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes) are anticipated near the M18 junction 2 Wadworth roundabout due to slip road and lane closures for structure maintenance.
– A1: From May 30 to October 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes) will affect northbound and southbound traffic between junctions 34 and 36 due to carriageway and slip road closures for technology works.
– M18: From May 13 to December 18, moderate delays (10-30 minutes) will impact the M62 eastbound and westbound between junction 35 and the M18 northbound and southbound between junctions 6 and 7 for parapet replacements. There will be 24/7 lane closures and a 50 mph speed restriction.
In addition, 16 new closures will commence over the next fortnight, including:
– M180: From August 19 to 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes) are expected eastbound at junction 2 for barrier repairs.
– A638: From August 20 to 21, moderate delays (10-30 minutes) are likely on Redhouse’s eastbound and westbound carriageway for sign erection works.
– A1: On August 22 and 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes) are anticipated for general cleaning and maintenance between Redhouse and Darrington.
– A1(M): Various closures for cleaning and maintenance are scheduled between August 22 and September 3, with delays ranging from slight to moderate.
National Highways is tasked with maintaining significant roads and motorways, so this schedule does not include the area’s closures of more minor roads. Drivers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid potential delays.
