Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder Following Fatal Assault in York
A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal assault occurred in York early Saturday morning.
Police were called to the Roche Avenue and Bellfarm Avenue area at approximately 4:45 a.m., where they discovered a man in his 30s suffering from severe injuries. The victim was immediately transported to the hospital, but despite the efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead upon arrival, according to North Yorkshire Police.
In connection with the incident, a second man, also aged 33, has been arrested on suspicion of affray. Both suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
Authorities have established a cordon around the area, which will remain in place throughout the weekend as officers conduct “extensive inquiries,” including collecting CCTV footage from nearby locations.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police reassured the public, stating, “We understand this incident may cause concern within the community. However, we believe this to be an isolated incident and are working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding it.”
The investigation is ongoing, and police urge anyone with information to come forward.
