Whitby Drug Ring Busted: Jack Bowers Sentenced to Over Nine Years in Prison
Whitby, August 16, 2024– In a significant victory for local law enforcement, a notorious drug dealer who flooded Whitby with cocaine and cannabis has been sentenced to nine years and four months in prison. Jack Bowers, 28, of Abingdon Road, Easington, was handed down the sentence at Teesside Crown Court today following his guilty plea to charges of drug supply spanning over a year.
Bowers’ downfall began on March 11, 2023, when North Yorkshire Police, acting on intelligence gathered by Scarborough CID, arrested him at his home across the Cleveland border. The arrest culminated in an extensive investigation into his criminal operations, which had plagued the Whitby area since October 2022.
The drug distribution network run by Bowers was disrupted on 11 March 2023, as North Yorkshire Police apprehended him at his residence.
Detective Constable Darrel Temple, who led the investigation, revealed that a treasure trove of evidence was recovered from Bowers’ mobile phone. “We unlocked his phone and found clear proof that Bowers was orchestrating the supply of significant amounts of cocaine and cannabis to various individuals in Whitby,” Temple said. “The analysis showed he was a key supplier to multiple sub-dealers, and he used a network of phone numbers to facilitate his illegal trade over the course of a year.”
In addition to the drug-related evidence, authorities also seized £8,000 in cash from Bowers, believed to be the proceeds of his illicit activities.
The investigation and subsequent arrest were bolstered by Project Alliance, a collaborative effort that unites police, local councils, the fire service, community safety partnerships, health bodies, and other key agencies to combat organised severe crime in North Yorkshire. This multi-agency approach has been instrumental in disrupting criminal networks like Bowers’ and ensuring those responsible are brought to justice.
Community Vigilance and Support
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected drug-related activity. Increased traffic to a property at odd hours, unusual behaviours, and drug-related litter are among the signs of potential drug dealing. North Yorkshire Police encourage anyone with information to report it via their website or by calling 101. For those who wish to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be reached at 0800 555 111 or through their online portal.
