An investigation is underway in Spain regarding Katy Perry’s most recent music video due to unauthorized filming that supposedly occurred on protected sand dunes in the Balearic Islands.
The video showcases the star on the shorelines of Formentera, on a vessel, diving into the sea, and revelling in the nightclubs of nearby Ibiza.
According to a statement by the Spanish government, alleged infractions took place on the deserted isle of S’Espalmador at the northernmost tip of Formentera by the production company responsible for the video.
However, authorities from Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Environment highlighted that although a preliminary inquiry is ongoing, the alleged violation is not being treated as an environmental offence as proper authorization may have been obtained if requested.
Perry has refrained from commenting on the investigation.
S’Espalmador is a privately possessed island located in the Ses Salines Natural Park. As stated on local travel websites, it is renowned for being one of the most ecologically varied regions of Formentera, featuring natural mud flats and salt plains.
Perry, known for her chart-toppers such as Roar, Firework, and I Kissed A Girl, is gearing up to unveil her seventh album, 143, in September.
The album’s lead single, Woman’s World, and its accompanying video received mixed reviews from critics and failed to reach the Top 40 in the UK charts.
Perry is engaged to actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a three-year-old daughter named Daisy Dove Bloom.
