Wembley Stadium will be filled for the upcoming five days as Taylor Swift brings more Eras tour shows to London.
The stadium in north-west London can accommodate 90,000 individuals, hence it can be assumed that transportation networks in the vicinity will be bustling during the upcoming days.
Chiltern Railways, the primary operators to and from London Marylebone station, advised patrons to procure their tickets prior to travel as services will be more crowded than usual.
Although Wembley railway station is the closest to the stadium, alternative routes exist, such as the Underground, which forms part of the Transport for London (TfL) network.
Journeying from central London to Wembley Stadium for Taylor Swift concerts
Despite Chiltern Railways offering more trains to and from Wembley Stadium during the concert days, the services are expected to be bustling.
Richard Allan, the managing director of Chiltern Railways, stated: “Our recommendation to customers is to anticipate busy trains, commence travel as early as possible, and be prepared for a queuing system for patrons catching the train from Wembley Stadium station post the event.”
Fortunately, taking the train is not the sole means of transportation.
The nearest London Underground station is Wembley Park, which is approximately a 12-minute walk away (sans any crowds).
This station is serviced by the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines on the Underground, providing connectivity to and from most major London Tube stations.
If you’re open to walking before or after the lengthy concert, further options afield include Stonebridge Park Station and North Wembley, both around a 30-minute walk away, with service by the Overground and Underground’s Bakerloo line.
If willing to wait in potential traffic and spend some money, a taxi may be a feasible choice, particularly when traveling with a group. Opting for a pickup location away from the stadium can aid in avoiding crowds, especially post-concerts.
Lastly, city bikes are an option if you’re up for it. While there are no Santander bikes at Wembley, the Lime bikes app seems to have bikes scattered amid central London and Wembley. This may assist in reaching a less congested Tube station if cycling all the way seems too far.
Travel expert Candace Salters had previously shared a tip for the London Eras tour on her Instagram ahead of the Eras tour gigs in June.
She proposed that fans take the Jubilee line northbound from Wembley Park station, away from central London for one stop to Kingsbury, then transfer to the southbound train.
Candace highlighted that the northbound platform is likely to be less congested than the southbound one.
This approach ensures securing a spot on the carriage before it reaches the bustling Wembley Park.
Transport for London reassured that the city’s transport network, including Wembley Park station, is experienced in handling large crowds during concerts, games, and events.
Working closely with Wembley Stadium, crowd management strategies will be in place on public transport to ensure that ‘all Swifties reach and depart from the concerts safely,’ as per TfL.
In June, TfL delighted fans by unveiling ‘Taylor’s Version’ of the Tube map, with lines and stations named after her albums and songs.
Wembley Stadium is stepping up its security measures after Taylor’s Vienna shows were canceled following a terror threat.
Reports indicate that the stadium has bolstered its private security team, specifically focusing on counter-terrorism.
