Autopsy Confirms Cause of Death for Doncaster Teen as Three Arrested on Suspicion of Murder
Darius Popan, 15, sadly passed away after being found with injuries on a section of the Trans Pennine Trail
A 15-year-old boy tragically lost his life after being discovered with severe injuries on a section of the Trans Pennine Trail in Doncaster last month. The young victim, identified as Darius Popan, was found on the evening of Saturday, July 27, between Sprotbrough and Warmsworth.
Emergency services were called to the scene at 7:47 pm, and Darius was immediately rushed to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, he sadly succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday, July 28.
Following the incident, South Yorkshire Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Darius’ death. A post-mortem examination has since revealed that he died as a result of multiple injuries. The investigation has led to the arrest of three teenagers—two 17-year-old boys and a 15-year-old girl—on suspicion of murder. The suspects remain in police custody.
Before their arrest on suspicion of murder, the three teenagers had been detained on suspicion of drug-related offences in connection with the case but were later released on police bail.
Detective Inspector Simon Cartwright addressed the public, urging caution regarding the ongoing investigation. “We are aware of speculation posted on social media in the aftermath of Darius’ death regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident. We would urge people to refrain from doing this and to please be mindful of our ongoing investigation and the thoughts of Darius’ family as they continue to grieve. I do, however, want to encourage anyone with information about this incident to please contact us if you haven’t already done so,” he said.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that Darius’ family has been informed of the latest developments and is receiving support from officers. A spokesperson for the police added, “If you can help, please submit information via our Major Incident Public Portal. If you wish to report information anonymously, you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or completing a simple and secure anonymous online form.”
Authorities are continuing their appeal for information to assist with the investigation into Darius’ death.
