Six Men Face Sentencing for South Yorkshire Riots
SHEFFIELD – Six individuals have been unmasked and are now awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to various offences related to recent rioting and violence in South Yorkshire.
The defendants, whose ages range from 16 to 41, were involved in the widespread disturbances that have affected communities across the region. Their appearances in court followed several days of unrest that prompted a swift judicial response.
Kaine Hicks, 22, of Wombwell Road, Platts Common, Barnsley, was the first to plead guilty to violent disorder during a hearing at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on August 10. Hicks has been remanded in custody and will face sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court on August 13.
Drew Jarvis, 19, with no fixed address, also entered a guilty plea to violent disorder at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on August 10. Jarvis, like Hicks, will be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on August 13.
Ricky Hardman, 41, of Norfolk Road, Barnsley, appeared before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on August 9, admitting to violent disorder. Hardman is scheduled to be sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on August 12.
Kenzie Roughley, 18, of Barnsley Road, South Elmsall, Pontefract, has likewise pleaded guilty to violent disorder. He remains in custody and will appear at Sheffield Crown Court for sentencing.
Joshua Simpson, 26, of no fixed abode, has been charged with assaulting an emergency worker. Simpson has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on August 27.
A 16-year-old boy, whose identity is protected by law, has also pleaded guilty to violent disorder. He is set to be sentenced at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on October 2, 2024.
The arrests and court proceedings reflect ongoing efforts to address and curb the violence that has recently plagued South Yorkshire.
