Rotherham – August 8, 2024—Last night, a Rotherham neighbourhood was thrown into turmoil when a suspicious package led to a significant emergency response involving local police and the army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.
The incident unfolded at approximately 7:19 PM on Rother View Road in the Canklow area. South Yorkshire Police swiftly arrived on the scene, and the army’s bomb disposal experts were also summoned to address the potential threat.
Authorities established a security cordon around the area and evacuated 15 properties as a precaution. Residents watched anxiously as emergency services worked to resolve the situation, and police advised the public to avoid the vicinity.
By 2:00 AM, a police spokesperson confirmed that the situation had been controlled. “The evacuation zone has been reduced after the army’s EOD team made the area safe,” they reported. “A small cordon remains in place at the property involved, but all affected roads have been reopened.”
Residents who had been evacuated were informed that they could safely return to their homes. The police thanked the public for their patience and cooperation during the incident.
The investigation into the suspicious package continues, and authorities remain vigilant to ensure the community’s safety.
