Due to an unforeseen and serious power outage, an emergency situation has been declared at a medical facility.
The Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, located in Hampshire, has been forced to close its emergency department, affecting scheduled appointments.
The Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has informed patients to proceed with their appointments unless they have been otherwise notified through direct communication or hospital channels such as the website or social media.
Communication systems like phone lines and switchboards are currently inactive, preventing incoming and outgoing calls.
In a reassuring statement, the trust mentioned that the hospital remains secure and medical staff are putting in efforts to ensure continuous care for existing patients.

As per the trust’s announcement: “Following an unexpected and severe power outage, the Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has implemented a major incident response at the Queen Alexandra Hospital.”
“Individuals with critical medical needs should contact NHS 111 or dial 999 in case of an emergency instead of heading to the QA Hospital Emergency Department.”
The on-site teams are actively engaged in the process of restoring power at the earliest opportunity, as outlined by the trust.
