Bradford, August 4, 2024 — In a surprise visit, Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham was seen at Valley Parade, Bradford, on Saturday, supporting his younger brother Jobe as he played for Sunderland against Marseille.
The England and Real Madrid star travelled to West Yorkshire during his holiday following England’s Euro 2024 campaign. Bellingham was spotted in the stands, dressed casually in a black long-sleeved top and a backwards cap, cheering on Jobe and the Sunderland squad.
The match, a friendly encounter held at the University of Bradford Stadium, was part of the events marking the 15th anniversary of the passing of Robert Louis-Dreyfus, former owner of Marseille and father of Sunderland’s chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus.
Bradford, Marseille, and Sunderland fans quickly recognized Bellingham, capturing photos and waving at the football star. Jude enjoyed the game alongside his parents, Denise and Mark, and showed visible support as Jobe played 80 minutes in the 2-2 draw.
The match saw Faris Moumbagna give Marseille an early lead, which was soon equalized by Dennis Cirkin after the break. Ismael Kone restored Marseille’s advantage, but Adil Aouchiche’s late penalty secured a draw for Sunderland.
Marseille’s new signing, Mason Greenwood, was notably absent from the game. Reports indicate that Greenwood, who was expected to make a homecoming, missed out due to a muscle injury and complications related to his return to the UK. The forward, who has not played in the UK since January 2022 due to legal issues, was sidelined, and club officials highlighted concerns about his fitness and return.
As Sunderland prepares for their Championship campaign opener against Cardiff City next weekend, Marseille will look to improve their form as they kick off their Ligue 1 season away to Brest on August 17.
