An eatery specializing in burgers and boasting the use of ‘premium ingredients’ was exposed as a dirty establishment with oil smearing nearly every surface.
Images reveal the unclean state of the kitchen, with uncooked chicken haphazardly placed in a salad container, paint peeling off the walls, and a broken faucet oddly substituted with a torn and moldy rubber glove secured with cable ties.
While the customer-facing section of Yum Burger restaurant in Normanton, Derbyshire appeared orderly and spotless, the reality behind the scenes painted a different picture of poor hygiene standards.
Unsanitary Conditions Uncovered…
In May, inspectors from Derby City Council assessed the eatery and granted it a dismal one-star rating, the lowest possible grade.
Data revealed that the handling of food hygiene and overall cleanliness of the premises required improvement, while the management of food safety urgently needed significant enhancements.
Upon subsequent inspections, it was noted that the identified issues had not been rectified.
Yum Burger’s branch in Derby maintains a Tripadvisor rating of 2, with a mix of one-star and five-star reviews.
One dissatisfied patron expressed disappointment stating, ‘Although they present their dishes in a playful manner with fancy packaging, receiving a raw burger was truly shocking. Avoid ordering from this filthy and unpleasant place.’
Conversely, another review commended the ‘excellent service, quality, and efficiency’ experienced at the eatery.
Despite the establishment’s claims of crafting burgers with love and providing an unparalleled cheeseburger experience to patrons, the council’s report depicted a different narrative with reports of dirt and debris lingering in various areas of the kitchen and storage spaces.
Additional findings included a dirty interior of the fridge, soiled door handles, switches, cooking appliances, and machinery, along with missing filters in the cooker ventilation systems.
Noteworthy safety concerns were raised regarding a fire alarm hanging precariously from exposed wires and a scorched power socket observed in the kitchen.
Improper fridge temperature maintenance led to bacterial growth and the potential formation of toxins in stored food items, while a malfunctioning walk-in freezer resulted in defrosted food supplies.
Concerning the botched faucet repair, inspectors emphasized the necessity of replacing or effectively repairing the tap to meet sanitation standards.
Even after a technician’s intervention, issues persisted with the refrigeration units during the inspector’s subsequent visit.
The inspector expressed disappointment over the unresolved matters during the follow-up inspection.
Yum Burger declined to provide a statement in response to the issues raised, although a staff member mentioned to the BBC that the deficiencies had been addressed.
