A devastating incident has led to the loss of six individuals – consisting of four adults and two children – in a collision between Wakefield and Barnsley.
The tragic event, involving a car and a motorbike, occurred on the A61 Barnsley Road on Sunday afternoon.
At the scene, a motorcyclist with a passenger and a man and woman in the car were pronounced dead.
Additionally, a man, woman, and two children, a boy and a girl, who were occupants of the car, also lost their lives in the crash.
Authorities were notified of the collision, which included a Ford Focus car and a motorbike, just before 4pm on Sunday.
The stretch of road between Shaw Lane and Warren Lane has been shut down and is expected to remain closed for an indefinite period while investigations are underway, as stated by West Yorkshire Police.
Superintendent Alan Travis from Wakefield District Police expressed, “This is an incredibly tragic incident resulting in the loss of six lives.”
He added, “Our hearts and thoughts are with the families of the deceased, and we are actively providing them with all necessary support during this difficult time.”
West Yorkshire Police have issued an appeal for anyone who witnessed the accident to come forward.
