Renowned vocalist Jessie J has unveiled that she has received a diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
The 36-year-old singer of the hit “Price Tag” shared on Instagram that she was diagnosed approximately three months ago, following the birth of her first son, which brought her conditions to light.
Referring to her ADHD as a “superpower” that has caused her to reassess her entire life, including her approach to work, she stated, “It has both empowered me and at times, overwhelmed me.”
Discussing her compulsive behaviors, the artist, whose real name is Jessica Cornish and hails from East London, mentioned that as a child, she would meticulously clean her sneakers with a toothbrush when stressed and always relied on lists to maintain a sense of control.
Emphasizing the impact of social media, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity it provided her to connect and find solace with strangers facing similar challenges, ultimately fostering a deeper sense of self-acceptance.
ADHD is a condition that influences behavior, often manifesting as restlessness or impulsiveness, as detailed by the NHS. Conversely, OCD is characterized by obsessive thoughts and compulsive actions that can disrupt daily life.
In a message of solidarity to others grappling with ADHD and OCD, she remarked, “I understand that there are countless individuals navigating these same struggles, and I am extending my hand of support as I seek solace as well.”
Reflecting on her journey, Cornish, who welcomed her son Sky Safir Cornish Colman last year after previously sharing her struggles with fertility and a miscarriage, concluded by emphasizing the importance of self-discovery and self-love.
