Apology and Admission
A US country music artist recently issued an apology and acknowledged being inebriated while delivering a slightly off-pitch rendition of the national anthem.
Ingrid Andress’s performance at a baseball event received criticism from spectators, especially for a high note that missed the mark.
The incident took place at the Home Run Derby in Arlington, Texas, where her opening act quickly became a topic of conversation on social media.
According to Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr, “I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life.”
An individual on YouTube commented, “When your Mom misled you and praised your singing abilities.”
Rehab Announcement
Facing the backlash, the 32-year-old singer promptly expressed regret, confessing on Instagram that she was under the influence during the performance and is taking steps to seek assistance.
She wrote, “I’m not going to sugarcoat it, I was drunk last night. I’m admitting myself to a facility today to receive the necessary support.
“That wasn’t my usual self last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this beloved country for that rendition. I’ll keep you posted on my rehab journey; I’ve heard it can be quite enjoyable.”
Background and Career
Andress, a recipient of four Grammy awards, initially gained recognition for her songwriting abilities, having penned tracks for artists like Bebe Rexha’s “Girl In The Mirror” and Charli XCX’s “Boys.”
The Nashville native’s debut album hit the shelves in 2020, with her breakout single “More Hearts Than Mine” reaching number 30 on the US charts.
Previous Musical Mishaps
This instance is not the first time a singer faced ridicule for their rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner at sports events.
Roseanne Barr’s comical rendition at a 1990 baseball game remains infamous, while Fergie’s unique version at the 2018 NBA All-Star Game was also widely criticized.
