Emma Raducanu Out of Wimbledon
British tennis player Emma Raducanu has been ousted from Wimbledon after being defeated by qualifier Lulu Sun in the fourth round.
Raducanu lost in three sets to New Zealand-born Sun, who secured the victory with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 on Centre Court.
The British number three faced a medical time-out in the final set due to a slip on the grass, while striving to advance to the women’s singles quarter-finals at SW19 for the first time.
Lulu Sun’s Triumph
Following her win, Sun expressed her joy at playing on Centre Court for the first time, stating, “It was a great match. I really had to battle hard for the win against Raducanu, who was giving her all until the last point.”
Reflecting on her debut at Wimbledon, Sun, with a world ranking of 123, shared, “Walking towards the Centre Court, I was taking in every moment for the first time. Playing in front of this audience is an incredible experience for me.”
Match Dynamics
During the match, Sun recorded 44 unforced errors compared to Raducanu’s 21, but Sun also achieved 52 winners to Raducanu’s 19.
Sun managed to break Raducanu’s serve five times and won 23 out of 28 net points. Sun, whose background includes a Croatian father and a Chinese mother, will now face Donna Vekic from Croatia in the quarter-finals.
Raducanu’s Journey
Raducanu, who captured the women’s US Open singles title in 2021 as a qualifier, took a break last year due to wrist and ankle surgeries.
After skipping French Open qualifying to focus on Wimbledon, Raducanu returned in June, reaching the semi-finals at the Nottingham Open and later the quarter-finals in Eastbourne.
Final Thoughts and Reflection
Given a wildcard entry to this year’s Wimbledon due to her current world ranking, Raducanu’s journey in the tournament came to an end, but her determination and talent continue to shine on the tennis court.
