Rob Delaney’s Heartfelt Wish
Famous comedian and actor Rob Delaney recently shared his wish to acquire the property where his son passed away, in order to spend his final moments in the same room. The US star revealed that back in 2018, his son Henry sadly lost his life at the age of two due to a brain tumor.
A Mix of Grief and Joy
Just five months later, Rob Delaney, aged 47, and his wife Leah shared the news of expecting their fourth son, after their tragic loss. During an interview on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, the Catastrophe star disclosed that Henry passed away in the identical living room where their youngest son was born.
Capturing Lasting Memories
Delaney fondly expressed, “We no longer reside there, but upon moving out, I had a conversation with the landlord about purchasing the property.” He added that he envisions spending his final days in the space where his late son departed and his other son entered the world.
Keeping Memories Alive
Henry was the first to learn about the upcoming addition to the family. Delaney emphasized the importance of sharing this news with their late son, stating, “He needed to be aware that our family, which deeply cared for him, continues to grow and evolve.”
Reflecting on Loss and Gratitude
Rob Delaney described Henry as clever, humorous, and playful at the time of his passing. He commended the NHS for extending unwavering support to his family during their trying times.
London, a Place of Comfort
Though his family contemplated leaving London, the memories associated with Henry persuaded them to stay. Delaney shared, “London is significant to us for various reasons, including revisiting places our son cherished, like the playground where he used to play.”
The comedian also highlighted the importance of London’s healthcare system and the enduring friendships they forged in the city.
Overcoming Personal Battles
Besides his professional success, Rob Delaney has maintained over two decades of sobriety following a life-changing car accident that led him to quit drinking.
Reflecting on his past, Delaney disclosed how alcohol initially served as an escape. He noted, “I battled with alcoholism since a young age, influenced by a family history of the same. Addiction doesn’t discriminate based on background.”
