The family of a 14-year-old army cadet who tragically lost his life in a bus collision have shared heartwarming memories of him as ‘a wonderful and compassionate individual’.
Jonathan Debnam, residing in Shortstown, was fatally struck by a bus on the A600 High Road just beyond the village on Thursday.
In a heartfelt statement, his family recollected him as an aspiring cook and animal enthusiast, especially fond of his feline companions.
They expressed, ‘We are deeply saddened by the untimely departure of our dear son. Jonathan was a humorous, kind, and bright young man who cherished his family and friends deeply.’
‘A dedicated member of the Army cadets, engaging in cadet camps and aiding others by imparting knowledge on first aid.’
‘He aspired to train for employment with the Disasters Emergency Committee to forge a career in assisting those in need.’
‘From a young age, he displayed culinary skills and had a profound love for animals, especially his cats, showing immense kindness.’
‘Above all, he possessed a compassionate and tender soul and his absence will be deeply felt by his family and friends, beyond mere words.’
‘May our sweet boy rest in peace.’
The family has requested privacy during this trying time.
Detective Sergeant Craig Wheeler remarked, ‘This is a profoundly tragic incident, and our thoughts are with Jonathan’s loved ones.’
‘We urge anyone who witnessed the collision or events leading up to it to come forward.’
‘We are especially interested in hearing from individuals who may have dashcam footage of the incident or the immediate vicinity of the A600 near Shortstown before the collision, which was reported to police just before midday.’
