Friend’s Account
A close friend of missing British teenager Jay Slater has disclosed that he had injured his leg on a cactus and was disoriented about his whereabouts, according to Sky News.
Lucy Law emphasized that the 19-year-old Slater is not lacking in intelligence and would have sought help from passersby or stopped a car if he had seen one while in distress.
Search Efforts
Slater, hailing from Lancashire, has been missing on the Spanish island since Monday morning, triggering a search operation involving his mother, a team of mountain rescuers, and local law enforcement. He vanished while vacationing with friends.
Despite his mobile phone being almost out of battery, he managed to send Law a photo of his current location. When she instructed him to retrace his steps, he expressed being clueless about where he had come from.
Law revealed that Slater was ill-equipped, without food or water, dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, facing extreme temperature variations throughout the day and night.
Search Operations
Law and others have embarked on a search campaign, distributing flyers in both English and Spanish across various locations.
Shortly after Slater’s disappearance, an American woman assisted Law in scouring the mountains with no success. Slater had shared an image online depicting mountains adjacent to a house he had visited.
Law managed to locate the house shown in the photo, where residents informed her that Slater had briefly stepped out for a smoke before expressing a desire to return home.
Race Against Time
The search has intensified with the involvement of agencies like the Spanish Civil Guard, deploying resources such as the Greim mountain rescue unit and a police helicopter in efforts concentrated around the Masca village area.
Law expressed deep concern, stressing Slater’s quick thinking and ability to seek help if he had encountered anyone during his ordeal.
As the search continues, unanswered questions linger about Slater’s mysterious disappearance, leaving his loved ones anxiously awaiting news of his safety.
